2256 Feet, a storefront installation
Toronto Design Offsite Festival, 2016
2256 feet was a temporary intervention into a commercial storefront, hosted by Aesop in their Toronto flagship store on Queen Street West. In the previous year, Superkül architects designed the elegant interior, collaborating with Kathryn Walter to create the FELT feature wall and ceiling.
Using remnants and offcuts from this original project, Walter heaped the felt into a pile that appears to extrude from the walls of this retail space. 2256 feet, so-called for the approximate length of felt strips it is made from, recalls Robert Morris' 256 Pieces of Felt. The pile contrasts with the clean lines and linearity of the interior design, and highlights the tactility and warmth of the material.
