Wall hangings designed and made with students
Curated by Sarah Robayo Sheridan
Funded by Parent Council
By invitation from curator Sarah Robayo Sheridan, and with help from parent volunteers, Kathryn Walter led workshops in each class from JK to grade 6, introducing students to felt and fabrication, renewable resources and low waste production. The junior grades learned about nuts and bolts and building through free play while the senior grades assembled cut parts that the artist designed to demonstrate maximum yield of material, cutting processes, scale and composition. Students learned some lessons in design through show and tell and touch and smell.
The assembled parts formed multiples of leaves that senior students used to create 20” x 30” studies that hang on the lower level of the school. And, a smaller group helped the artist pin together a 5’ x 7’ culminating wall hanging that hangs in the upper stairwell.
